LG U+ is going to carry out verification of core technologies for 6G mobile telecommunication antennas. First of all, related technologies will be verified in the 3.5GHz band and 28GHz band as the first step, and will be applied to the terahertz band in the future to check their effectiveness in the 6G environment. <See page7 dated March 10>
The technology that conducts LG U+ verification is 'Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) that can be reconstructed.' It is one of the 6G element technologies that use antenna surface electromagnetic characteristics to transmit base station radio waves to users. It can be compared to an "intelligent mirror" that controls transmission power according to radio characteristics.
RIS is one of the most popular technologies that can solve radio wave loss problems in terahertz bands with wide bandwidth but short wavelengths. It is possible to improve coverage of shaded areas by providing base station signals "transmission effects" and "reflection effects" in environments with obstacles (NLoS, Non-Line-of-Sight) or situations (O2I, Outdoor-to-Indoor) entering the room from an outdoor base station.
